Welcome to the Shire of Broome
Blue Haze Caretaker Dwellings and Caravans
Owners of caretaker dwellings and caravans in Blue Haze are being urged to familiarise themselves with and abide by council regulations. The Shire of Broome has sent letters to Blue Haze property owners to remind them of their responsibilities in this area.
Shire President Graeme Campbell said this was an opportunity for the Blue Haze community to ensure they had planning approvals and that their caretaker dwelling or caravan complies with Council requirements.
"With a limited supply of short term accommodation for workers, Council does allow caravans on properties under certain conditions. Unfortunately some caretaker dwellings have developed into substantial residences. This area is designated for industrial activities essential for Broome's economy."
"As an industrial area, Blue Haze caters for caretaker dwellings but is not set up for typical residential use. Along with the noise factor of living in an industrial area, there are also potential health and safety risks when living side by side with industry."
"Our preferred approach is to work with the owners to ensure all the necessary approvals have been obtained. You may think by not liaising with the Council we don't know about your caravan or caretaker dwelling. Chances are we do and its important for you to know your obligations. Our planning staff welcome your enquiries or take a look at the information sheets and application forms available on our website" said Cr Campbell.
